Beta™ Horizontal Bottles

If you cannot find the part number in the documentation please provide detail. Specific to this item, it could include part number or application detail, (ex. 20 meters of cable, or 20 litres of volume)

This bottle is excellent for near off-shore (to 200 m) trace metal sampling, since there are no metal parts to touch your sample. You avoid the metallic ion contamination that can cause major errors in algal assays or productivity. Beta™ Van Dorn bottles have rigid, white, inert ASA plastic end seals for clean sealing. The bottle ends are machined to fit foam silicone gaskets. Amber latex tubing, which does not leach measurable amounts of metal, closes the bottle. Beta™ bottles feature a nylon safety line connecting the end seals, so if the closing tube breaks, you’re less likely to lose your expensive seals. This is why Beta™ bottles have an excellent track record in a wide variety of field conditions.

Horizontal Acrylic or PVC Beta™ Bottles

Alpha™ and Beta™ Differences
These bottles are very similar in use and appearance. Both are Van Dorn samplers that come in the same sizes and in PVC and transparent acrylic. The differences are in the end seals and latex closing tubing. These differences are enough, however, to make the Beta™ better suited to sampling trace metals and other chemical sampling.

The blue polyurethane seal used in Alpha™ bottles may leach some mercury, but it is durable and long-lived. The white ASA plastic seal used in Beta™ bottles does not leach mercury, and yet it is not as durable.

The Alpha™ black latex tubing is highly resistant to decay from sunlight and water. However, it may leach a very few heavy metals.

Intended for deep or shallow waters, these “horizontal” bottles should be pulled 1 m sideways just before closing. This ensures a representative water sample for that specific depth of water. They cannot be used in series because their release mechanisms are at the end of a line or cable. They are ideal, however, for sampling at the thermocline, at other stratification levels, or just above the bottom sediments.

Beta™ bottles come in your choice of transparent acrylic or opaque PVC. PVC is more durable and less costly, but the acrylic allows you to view the contents immediately. A thermometer can be mounted to acrylic Beta™ bottles.
