Laser Methane Gas Detector

The Methane Laser is a handheld gas detector for the remote measurement of column density for methane and methane-containing gases (natural gas or similar). Gas column density within approximately 30 meters (within 10 meters for Low Range) can be measured quickly by directing a laser beam at the portion to be inspected.
Infra-red absorption spectrophotometry up to 10,000ppm Methane

The measured point is illuminated by a red guide beam thus clearly visible. Measured gas column density is displayed on the display of the panel in real time.

The offset function enables more accurate gas column density measurement by subtracting the effect of methane that exists in the atmosphere (approx. 2 ppm) from the measured results. The measured gas column density is always stored in the internal memory and can be used for data analysis after measurement.

This equipment is based on Infrared Absorption Spectroscopy using a semiconductor laser for methane gas measurement. The integrated concentration of methane between this equipment and the target point is measured by transmitting a measurement laser beam towards the target point (gas piping, ceiling, wall, floor, ground, etc.) then detecting a fraction of the diffusely reflected beam from that target point. The measured value is expressed by the methane column density (ppm m): the methane concentration (ppm) multiplied by the thickness (m).
